Most people believe that using a solvent cleaner alone to remove rust from concrete will work wonders. What they do not know is that there is a high possibility for rust to resurface if you choose to use a solvent alone. The best way to remove rust is to use a very strong solution like muriatic acid. But before you start the derusting process you must remember to wear gloves and a mask to protect yourself from the harmful damage that strong solutions may cause.

Here is a guide on how to remove rust stains from concrete:

Get a plastic cover and lay all your materials on it. This will protect the concrete from too much exposure from the strong solution that you will apply. Get a plastic pan and pour two cups of water on it. After pouring two cups of water, add a quarter cup of muriatic acid to the water. Always remember to pour the acid on the water and not the other way around because doing so will produce a chemical reaction that will cause the acid to splash.
Apply a small amount of the acid solution one rust stain at a time. You will notice that once the solution is applied to a rust stain, the solution will produce bubbles on the concrete. Let the concrete seep the solution and leave it for five minutes. After five minutes use a floor brush and scrub the rust stain off. If the rust does not disappear immediately, reapply acid solution to the rust stain.
Rinse the acid solution off with fresh water. Make certain that the acid solution has been washed away completely by water. Once the fresh water you used to rinse off the stain has been dried up, you will notice a change in the texture of the concrete. It will have a slightly rougher texture compared to the untreated areas of the concrete. This will not cause any damage to the concrete. The rougher texture is proof that the rust stain has been removed.

These simple steps will help you keep your concrete floors and walls rust-free. Always remember to use safety gear while applying the acid solution and to take a shower after applying the acid solution to the concrete. It is important that the acid solution that you prepared does not touch any part of your body. While it is one of the best substance that you can use in getting rid of rust, it may cause skin irritations when your skin is exposed to it.
